How much cost Everest Base Camp Trek? The above Cost includes: 1. Please do not bring 10 rolls of toilet paper with you on the trek, like many advise. There is plenty of it available to buy for cheap even if you are on a budget in case you run out. Save some space in your bag for other, more important things like wet wipes that can be very expensive.
No one ever warns you about the enormous ATM fees in Kathmandu. True story! Most people nowadays expect to have wifi everywhere they go and that includes the highest mountain range in the world. Telecom companies in Nepal have spotted an expanding market and are cashing in big time on the luxury of internet connections high in the mountains.
The mb of data gets more and more expensive the higher you go. This will mostly be enough for a couple of emails and to update your Facebook status, but nothing more. I saw this happen way too many times.
I would recommend buying a local SIM card with a data plan from Kathmandu before your trek instead, as there is reception up to around metres and in some cases even in Base Camp.
All of this does add up. Before my trek, I found so many different opinions about using Acetazolamide for preventing and reducing the symptoms of altitude sickness. There are several side-effects to consider before taking Diamox to aid with acclimatisation, the main being numbness, having tingling sensation in fingers, toes and lips, ringing in the ears, loss of appetite, vomiting and sleepiness. As these can also be signs of your body reacting to high altitude, knowing the difference can be difficult.
The medication, however, can decrease headaches most common side effect from not drinking enough water , nausea, dizziness and shortness of breath. This together with the need to drink at least three litres of water per day will make you go to the toilet a lot.
Diamox works by decreasing the amount of hydrogen ions and bicarbonate in the body, thus allowing you to breathe deeper and faster while also taking in more oxygen. The increased oxygen will then aid with acclimatisation.
I went the preventative way, taking half a tablet in the morning and half at night when I landed in Lukla and an extra one when I felt as I was about to faint with a splitting headache on my way to Lobuche. Unlike in Tibet, it's not possible to drive to EBC in Nepal as the nearest road ends just past Phaplu , many days' walk away.
Most travelers fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, and then trek from there. Many route options are possible. The EBC trek is the most popular trek in Nepal as the lure of the tallest mountain on earth is strong.
Most trekkers start at Lukla and trek through the small settlements of Phakding, Namche Bazaar the biggest 'town' in the region , Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche, before returning the same way. It's standard to take at least one acclimatization day in Namche, and another in Dingboche. The above-mentioned EBC trek is very popular, and during peak season spring and autumn the trails and accommodation can get very crowded.
Trekkers who want to see or visit EBC while avoiding the thickest crowds can opt for an alternative route. These add a couple to a few extra days on to the standard EBC itinerary.
Travelers who have a generous budget but who lack the time or physical ability to trek to EBC can take a helicopter tour from Kathmandu. These are a spectacular way to experience the mountainous landscape of the Sagarmatha National Park, and it's especially beautiful to see the progression from inhabited farmland in the hills to tundra to barren rocky land at the foot of the world's tallest mountains.
Helicopter tours usually stop once in Lukla, and then again somewhere else for breakfast with a view. You may not actually stop at EBC itself, as this isn't always possible, and the sharp increase in altitude would be uncomfortable for most people anyway. If left untreated AMS can be life-threatening. While the vast majority will only feel discomfort, it is not uncommon for a small number of people to need extra care which will be provided by our leaders and local staff.
All our trips that spend time at high altitude follow our standard altitude safety measures. A number of medical conditions and medications can also reduce your body's ability to acclimatise, and thus will affect your performance at altitude and make you more susceptible to AMS. If you are worried about any pre-existing condition e.
You may also wish to discuss medication such as Diamox that may help aid acclimatisation. There are currently no scheduled departures on our Everest Base Camp Trek trip. If you are interested in other trips in the region visit one of the links below. This trip starts in Kathmandu on Day 1 at 2 pm. This allows time after the joining meeting to explore Kathmandu.

Flights throughout Nepal — particularly in high mountain areas — are often delayed or cancelled due to poor weather conditions. Flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are particularly prone to these delays which has the potential to vary the itinerary of our tour departures. Our contingency plans in case of bad weather preventing the fixed wing aircraft flight from Kathmandu to Lukla are as follows: Day 2 — We will attempt to board our booked fixed-wing plane as per the itinerary.
If this flight is cancelled, we will return to our hotel in Kathmandu for an additional night. Day 3 — We will again attempt to board our booked fixed-wing plane. If this flight is cancelled we will endeavour to charter a helicopter to transport the group, provided helicopters are available and weather does not prevent them from flying to Lukla.
Travellers will need to use their emergency fund to cover the cost of the chartered helicopter. The exact cost will depend on how many travellers are in your group and could be up to US If we reach Lukla on day 3 by either fixed wing aircraft or helicopter we will then follow the same itinerary to Everest Base Camp but descend over one less day in order to take our return flight from Lukla on day Day 4 — If both fixed-wing planes and helicopters are unable to reach Lukla on the morning of day 3, then on day 4 we will travel by road to Phaplu an approximately 9-hour drive by private vehicle and then trek to Tengboche on the Everest Base Camp route via Lukla.
While we will not be able to reach Base Camp itself on this altered itinerary, but our travellers have still found it a highly enjoyable trek with superb views of the ranges and Everest itself.
