Margarito will have to land a few massive shots or hope he can wear Pacquiao down late. Otherwise it's another win for Manny, probably by mid-round TKO. I thought this would be an easy win for Manny Pacquaio, but recent reports state that Manny has seemed distracted and passive in his preparation.
On the contrary, Antonio Margarito has seemed to be the most focused out of the two. Freddie Roach has predicted his fighter to knock out Margarito, but I disagree. My only reservation for giving Margarito the nod is for him to win, he has to knock Pacquaio out. So I give Pacquaio a controversial split decision. Manny Pacquiao will have a field day against Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao's speed and angles will be his main assets here in this fight and I see Margarito breaking down towards the late stretch.
That said, I am not counting Margarito out. That guy can take a beating and I am betting he is hell bent on redeeming himself from that plaster fiasco. If this is all about the hunger and the burning desire to win, I will give that edge to Margarito. And sometimes, a strong will is enough to propel someone against the odds. I see a tough fight for Magarito and he will eventually land those power shots.
But Pacquiao's speed and superior skills will be too much for Margarito. A late knockout for the Filipino. But I won't be surprised if Tornado decks Pacquiao with a big one and win the match. Margarito will have some good moments in the third to eighth rounds, and then Pacquiao will win via late TKO 10th to 12th round or a strong unanimous decision victory.
Don't be surprised if Floyd Mayweather makes some sort of announcement within two days of the fight. Being the bigger fighter, Margarito thought he could impose his size against the only man in boxing to win eight world titles in as many weight classes. The problem was getting a hold of him. But I am happy for what I accomplished.
Margarito actually did hurt Pacquiao late in the bout when he nailed the Filipino on the ropes with a nasty body punch, which later left the champion with broken ribs. When a loss became inevitable and stopping the fight was the logical thing to do, the machismo in him obviously prevailed. Margarito lost by technical knockout in the 10th round as his surgically repaired right eye was badly swollen shut, forcing him to retire from boxing. After a five-year hiatus, Margarito came out of retirement and fought three more times, all of which he won.
Pacquiao wants someone impartial in the dressing room with Margarito to watch him wrap his hands. If you believe that he will be packing pavement with his punch and can connect against Pacquiao, then the 25 to 1 odds look pretty sweet, but don't look for that to happen. Pacquiao by Decision 28 to 1. Pacquiao is the more talented of the fighters and he will win this match, but can Margarito go the distance?
