In fact, his powers pretty much require him to wear magical helmet, cape and amulet at all times. The Flash is the fastest living thing. Meaning not only can the Flash move at immeasurable speeds, he can also run across oceans and phase right through solid objects.
Several different people have taken up the mantle of the Flash over the years. Jay Garrick was the first, Barry Allen is the most well known, however, Wally West originally Kid Flash is arguably the most powerful because he was the only one able to traverse both time and dimensions under his own power.
The Green Lantern Corps is an intergalactic police force charged with defending the universe. Their standard issue weapon and the source of all their strength is the power ring, which draws upon the willpower of the user and translates their thoughts and ideas into physical objects and constructs. Meaning a Green Lantern? Hal Jordan was the first human Green Lantern, but there have been others since.
And different Green Lanterns have demonstrated varying degrees of skill when it comes to building constructs. For instance, John Stewart was an architect, so his constructs were always very well thought-out and extremely powerful. This is in sharp contrast to Kyle Rayner who was an artist and made constructs that were incredibly elaborate and original. Kyle also developed his powers to the extent that he gained control over the entire emotional spectrum, becoming the White Lantern, whose power potential is still unknown.
Martian Manhunter, might have two of the most ridiculous sounding names in the whole DCU, but, believe us, his powers are certainly no joke. He can also breathe ice and shoot powerful psionic blasts from eyes, which, granted, is pretty generic, but still two of the coolest powers a hero can possess. He even worked together with Superman and Wonder Woman at one point to physically move the entire planet in order to avert a catastrophe. Billy Baston was a pretty normal kid until a mysterious wizard took note of his unbridled optimism and altruism and decided to bestow on him the powers of the gods.
This is definitely the best secret identity in the DCU since, in a flash of lightning, Billy is transformed from a skinny adolescent boy into a muscular adult superhero. Though, he was originally known as Captain Marvel, presently the superhero is referred to as Shazam due to a naming conflict with another Captain Marvel from Marvel Comics. Furthermore, his speed, which is derived from the god Mercury, surpasses Superman and rivals the Flash. The guy is literally six superheroes in rolled into one.
Obviously Superman had to make the list. But this is a bit of an oversimplified assumption. There were no comic book heroes with ice breath or heat vision before Superman. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster conceptualized all of those fantastic abilities specifically for this character. And did we mention his weaknesses? Plus, the entire DCU knows that a little bit of kryptonite will bring him to his knees. His powers are absolutely amazing in that aspect, as he was even able to create an alternative timeline during the famous Flashpoint event.
Thanks to it, they can achieve feats such as dodging bullets, creating mini-tornadoes by turning their arms or moving in circles extremely fast, running vertically or on water without suffering the effects of gravity, giving bursts of gunfire like a human machine gun.
They are also surrounded by an invisible aura of the Speed Force, the source of their powers, which protects them from friction and pressure from extreme speeds, for example when the sound barrier is crossed, and can vibrate through solids and thus cross them. The four characters each have specific powers.
Jay Garrick and Bart Allen can memorize everything they read in super-speed, which allows them to accumulate an impressive amount of knowledge. Bart Allen was also able, after being hit by a super-speed beam, send energy doubles of himself into the stream of time, but after one of them died, it is not known if he has. Barry Allen could travel in time thanks to a cosmic bearing of his invention and access other dimensions by making his molecules vibrate at a particular frequency its speed would be 9,, times faster than that of light.
Wally West, after going to the other side of the Speed Force without being absorbed, has acquired new powers: he can speed up wound healing and chemical reactions, communicate his speed to other people or objects by touching them or, on the contrary, stealing theirs.
In this way Wally was able to stop the bullets in place, after which they fell to the ground, inert. He is also able to create swift sheer strength items, like his costume. In fact, it seems that over the generations, they have become faster and faster and, more generally, more and more powerful.
Thus, during the first meeting between Jay Garrick and Barry Allen, it was clearly shown that the second was running faster than the first. Barry Allen is the only Flash to have reached twice the speed of light during one of his races against Superman, for example , an unprecedented record. We learn on his return that he is in fact at the origin of the Speed Force.
As far as their physical powers are concerned, they have never been particularly imposing, although they have demonstrated some strength from time to time. The Flashes have always been regular humans with a connection to the Speed Force. For example, in a battle against Superman or Wonder Woman, both superheroes with superhuman strength, the Flashes are practically useless. For scale, Barry is so powerful that he literally created a separate universe.
The biggest twist from the recent Heroes in Crisis event revealed that none other than Wally West had murdered the patients at Sanctuary. By the end of the series, it is revealed that Wally lost control of his abilities for only a brief moment. However, that loss of control resulted in a massive burst of Speed Force energy that still managed to kill an incredible number of heroes. Because of this fact, Barry could just as easily accomplish what Wally did.
Knowing that The Flash could instantly take the lives of anyone close enough is an incredibly horrifying thought to think about, but still makes for an incredible display of power. In a weird, twisted paradox of sorts, the two were always destined to be a part of each other so that time itself could be created. Since the Speed Force is the thing that actually moves time forward according to the science of the DCU , this means that Barry actually created the concept of time and is the reason there is a past, present and future, making for one of the most incredible displays of power in comic history.
After everything seemed hopeless towards the end of Final Crisis, barry allen actually made his triumphant return from the dead. After the Black Racer was chasing Barry in the past, Barry ran so fast that he ended up in the present, thus saving his own life.
At this point, Barry began adjusting to the years he had lost, working his way back up to one of the most powerful men on the planet. However, for everything Barry has accomplished, literally outrunning death is one of the more powerful things he has managed to pull off over the years.
